From 1992 to 2002 Roberto Aussel's yearly U.S. tours included concerts and master classes at the Boston, New England, Peabody and San Francisco Conservatories. He has been invited to play for the Guitar Foundation of America series on several occasions and performed in such prestigious chamber music series as San Francisco Performances (twice), New York’s Frick Collection and the University of Michigan Musical Society.

In 2015 he will begin concertizing in North America after a 12 year absence.

Roberto Aussel is an extraordinary musician and an exceptional interpreter. Born in 1954 in La Plata, Argentina, he began playing the guitar as of the age of seven. After studying with master Jorge Martinez Zarate, his principal teacher, Aussel was awarded first prize at some of the most prestigious competitions in the world, including the international guitar competitions of Radio France Porto Alegre (Brazil) and the Alirio Diaz in Caracas (Venezuela). Since then Aussel’s renown as an international concert artist has continued to spread and to elicit the interest of musical circles far beyond the habitual guitar public. He teaches at the Cologne Conservatory and directs a high level of learning along with a very active concert career that takes him to the four corners of the world. Among today’s guitar virtuosos, Roberto Aussel distinguishes himself by extreme care in phrasing which highlights the infinitesimal intentions of the composer and the most subtle effects of refined expression, and that with no matter what period of music. With this exceptional guitarist, it is this capacity to identify with the most diverse compositions that always captivates.

Performing in the important cities of Europe, Latin America, Japan, China and the United States, Aussel has been featured with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France, l'Orchestre Colonne at the Salle Pleyel in Paris, the National Orchestra of Belgium, the BBC Orchestra of London and the Buenos Aires Symphony. His recitals include Wigmore Hall of London where he has twice been invited, the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, the Belgrade Festival, Hong Kong's Cultural Center for the Arts and the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan Recital Hall.

Actively concerned with the music of the 20th century, he has collaborated with several composers, many of whom have dedicated their music to him. In was after hearing Roberto Aussel during a competition in 1981 that Astor Piazzolla first began writing for the classical guitar and dedicated his first works, Five Tangos for Guitar to him.

In 1999 the Konex Foundation of Buenos Aires honored this guitarist with the “Konex Silver Prize”, a prestigious reward from the Argentine republic naming him the decade’s best instrumentalist of plucked strings. Roberto Aussel has made 12 recordings. His transcriptions of 15 sonatas of Scarlatti, published by Aeon in 2005, continue to be a source. In May 2008, he published a new opus, homage to his fellow countryman, Atahualpa Yupanqui for the centennial of his birth. As an extension of the stage and education, since 1983, Roberto Aussel is in charge of a collection of guitar music for the Paris publisher Editions Henry Lemoine. In 2016 he received a lifetime achievement award, Prix Honorifique José Tomás Villa de Petrer, from the International Guitar Festival of that name in Spain. Since 1994 Roberto Aussel teaches at the Musikhochschule of Koln (Germany) and manages brilliantly to combine this demanding task with an active world-wide career every year.

From baroque to contemporary music, Roberto Aussel never ceases to move us with the extraordinary musical sensitivity of his interpretations. His style, instantly recognizable, has defined his international fame.
